How to Become a Michigan Notary:
Michigan has few eligibility requirements to become a notary compared to other states. The process is simple and affordable (from $55.00). To become a notary in Michigan, you must:
- Be 18 years of age or older.
- Be a Michigan resident or maintain a place of business in Michigan
- Be a U.S. citizen or possess proof of legal presence.
- Be a resident or maintain a principal place of business (non-Michigan residents) in the county in which you request your appointment.
- Read and write in the English language.
- Have filed with the appropriate county clerk a proper surety bond for $10,000 and taken the oath of office as prescribed by the state constitution (Michigan licensed attorneys are exempt).
- Have not been convicted of two (2) or more misdemeanor offenses involving a violation of the Michigan Notary Public Act within 12 months while commissioned, or three (3) or more misdemeanor offenses involving a violation of this act within five years regardless of being commissioned.
